WHAT a night! i can't even explain. getting to know more people on base, and SO sad some of them are leaving. like this gem of a woman, louisa, who had been apparently waiting for my arrival unbeknownst to me. shes a fellow teacher, from YWAM Baja - Mexico, and we talked great classroom stuff. we actually met and began talking about my fear of showering here (read: cold water only). she gave me a shower bag to hang in the sun! so then we start talking classroom stuff and i told her i wish i had velcro dots. she runs to the back of the room. what does she have, but velcro!?! who even brings that!? this woman was santa. but then, a saint. what a conversation. i told her how i didn't feel a full time call to ministry or missions, and began to share with her my vision for teacher development and training for teachers in developing nations during my summers as a teacher in the states. she starts laugh/crying and pulls a folded piece of paper out of her back pocket as she says "okay, so i have to share this with you because this, this is God." after her experience today with a school in an orphanage, she felt the same call and literally wrote her vision out on the paper. she's called it
apples for teachers and so we spent some time discussing that. seriously, divine appointment.
after dinner tonight, i went to play uno with stacia (the principal), keturah (office everything), and sarah, anne, ferran and jenna (fellow teachers). anne had a wonderful idea to take taxis (glorified mopeds) to get ice cream! heck yes! it was my maiden voyage both outside the base and on a taxi (terrifying, and next time, i'll wear my sunglasses (at night even)). it was a great experience tho, and i really enjoyed spending time with the girls and getting to know them better. the epi-d'or (fast food restaurant a top a grocery store) was an interesting experience and we laughed over our cookies-n-cream and french fries.
i've gotta get to bed, but just wanted to share a bit. i can count at least 4 dogs in a barking war outside the windows. PTL for ear plugs :)
please be praying for my health. i've been battling a sore throat and cough along with loss of voice, but the dust (oh, my, the dust!) is settling in my nasal passages and burning and stuffing and draining and its just not fun. better than dengue i suppose.
